About me
Government, business and civil society joined hands in 1992 to work towards finding a solution to this challenge and created a trust that they named the Education With Enterprise Trust (EWET). In 1994 EWET started with the involvement of 270 Grades 9,10 and 11 learners within an extra mural youth lead entrepreneurial club activity that is school based - called YES (Youth Enterprise Society), from which the impact grew to reach in excess of 12 000 learners within 286 YES clubs in 2008. While the progress had been substantial, the reach is still less than 5% of schools based within rural schools across South Africa. The effectiveness of the YES approach in providing instruction in entrepreneurship and economic principles in a manner that encourages creativity, self-sufficiency and personal initiative was found in an external evaluation, the report of which was made available in February 2008. See http://www.ewet.org.zaMy Projects
The Education With Enterprise Trust (EWET) assists communities and Education Departments with the implementation of EWET’s Youth Enterprise Society (YES) programme. YES is an ongoing, outcomes based, learner centred, extramural, youth-led, secondary school-based youth entrepreneurship society (club) movement. YES focuses on the development of 17 identified business competencies through experiential (or action) learning. YES societies in a city or town are initiated, supported and led locally by a Local Partnership (LP) assisted by EWET. LPs involve local business people, youth leaders, community leaders, educationalists and in many cases - Local Government. EWET provides services such as LP training, YES Advisor training (teachers and volunteering adults), YES youth executive training, the Annual National YES SIMAMA RANTA as well as ongoing support, promotion, evaluation and coordination. Supplies by EWET include all the printed materials required for LP and YES operations, YES News.

YES Adult Advisor of the Year
The YES Adult Advisor (Voluntary Teacher) is being selected from amongst all the Advisors operating within YES societies. The Local Partnership (LP) executive nominates an Advisor from its area of operation. The nomination is based upon the Advisors commitment and contributions to the effective operations of the team (Pioneer, Champion or Entrepreneur) as well as the YES society that the Advisor is responsible for. These criteria include amongst others: number of business/entrepreneurial competencies gained by the YES members that the Advisor is responsible for, income generating business ventures initiated by the Advisor=s YES members, participation and progress in Advisor training courses, attendance rates, leadership roles, etc. The final selection is being done by a panel during the YES SIMAMA RANTA.

The YES Adult Advisors nominate candidates from their own society (based upon a set of criteria that includes: business/entrepreneurial competencies gained during the year, active participation and attendance of meetings and society projects, involvement in an income generating business venture, academic progress at school, leadership roles in YES, etc.) to their LP. The LP executive select the best candidate from its area and nominates the candidate with the Education With Enterprise Trust (EWET). EWET involves a panel of adjudicators at the YES SIMAMA RANTA to make the final selection.
Team of the Year (Pioneer, Champion or Entrepreneur YES team)
YES Adult Advisors nominates the best team (15 members) from their society to their LP. The criteria for this selection consist of: number of competencies covered by the team, attendance rates (YES members as well as advisors), number and success of income generating business ventures launched by the YES members, team projects initiated, etc. The LP select the best team from its area of operations and nominates the team to EWET. EWET, assisted by a panel work through the nominations and select the best team, during the SIMAMA RANTA.
YES Society of the Year
The LP nominates the best YES society (45 members and their advisors) from its area of operations. A number of criteria are being utilised based upon: number of competencies covered by the society, attendance rates (YES members as well as advisors), number and success of income generating business ventures launched by the YES members, joint society projects initiated, achievements of the society=s members at the SIMAMA RANTA, etc. A panel assess the nominations and select the best society, during the SIMAMA RANTA.
