Global Call to Action Video Challenge
Tell The World About Your Project Through Film or Writing
Have A Nobel Laureate Visit Your GCA Team
The aim of the Global Call to Action is to build an international movement of young people working to make this world a better place. Tens of thousands of youth on every continent have answered that call, creating GCA projects. Together we have begun the hard but exciting work of building that movement and changing our world.
Now PeaceJam and the Global Call to Action are issuing another challenge. We want you to tell the world about your GCA project. We know how inspiring your stories can be. We’ve seen firsthand your compassion, your creativity and your dedication to your work. Now we want you to share everything you’ve done and learned to help inspire other youth to get involved. Telling others about your projects and your work is one of the best ways we have of building the GCA movement.
To enter, you can:
• Create a short video (approximately 3 to 5 minutes) about your project.
Or
• Write a magazine-style story about your project. (500 to 1500 words).
It’s your choice. One video and one report will be picked as Grand Prize winners. There will also be three Second Prize winners in each category.
Work With A Nobel Laureate
This could be your chance to work directly with a Nobel Peace Prize winner. We will review all the entries and pick the best video and the best story. If you are a Grand Prize winner, one of the GCA laureates will come to your location to meet with your team, and will personally help you with your project or assist you in developing ideas for future projects.
Along with the visit by a Nobel Laureate, your team will receive a workshop in digital storytelling by experts from the Pearson Foundation. This workshop will help your team create a digital story about your experience working with a Nobel Peace Prize winner.
Have Your Work Broadcast or Published
In addition, the Grand Prize-winning video will be broadcast on television in the United States. The Grand Prize-winning story will be included in a new book about young activists around the world published by a division of Pearson, plc. The winners’ work will also be featured at the next Global Call to Action youth conference to be held in September, 2009.
Win Cameras for Your Team
As part of the Grand Prize, each member of the winning teams in both categories will receive a Flip video camera.
What We Are Looking For
We are looking for videos and stories that reflect the energy, thoughtfulness and compassion of the Global Call to Action teams. We want you to tell the world:
• Why your issue is important to you and to the world
• How your project will make a difference
• Exactly what you did, step-by-step from the first idea
• What you learned
• What you accomplished so far and what you hope to accomplish
Your project does not have to be completed, but you have to have made real progress toward your goals. Also, your project must be registered with the Global Call to Action and it must address one of the ten GCA issues.
Inspire Others to Answer The Call
We know you have some incredible stories. We know you have already begun changing the world, making it a better place. We know you have worked hard, that you have faced and overcome obstacles and learned valuable lessons. Now we want you to use the story of your project to inspire other young people. Let them see what you have done. Add your voice to the voices of the Nobel Laureates and get others to answer the Global Call to Action.
